Who we are, what data we collect, and why
George White Mystery Games is solely owned by Sue White. George White oversees the operation from his basket but, as a cat, he has no enforceable responsibility or authority in law. Our site address is: Georgewhitemysterygames.co.uk
When you purchase a George White Mystery Game, we collect a modest and entirely sensible amount of personal data. Nothing dramatic, nothing that needs a Lower Pudlington Police investigation or a village‑wide emergency meeting. We collect only the bits of data needed to ensure your parcel arrives without being waylaid by any nosy neighbours:
- Your name (so we know who’s solving the mystery)
- Your address (so the mystery can find its way to your door)
- Your email (in case something goes awry and we must send a polite note)
- Details of your purchase (so we don’t accidentally send you the wrong evidence)
We use this information solely to process and deliver your order. No secret committees, no clandestine sharing, no mysterious shenanigans. Just basic no‑nonsense admin.
Payment information
When you buy a game from our website, your payment is handled by a third‑party payment processor: Stripe. Stripe automatically collects certain information which it needs to process your payment and prevent fraud, including: your card details (card number, expiry date, CVC); your billing name and address; your email address (for receipts); your IP address and device information; and your browser and behavioural data used for fraud detection (Stripe Radar). Stripe may transfer personal data outside the UK/EU under the Data Privacy Framework. You can read more about how Stripe handles personal data here: https://stripe.com/privacy
Our mailing list
We are small but perfectly formed. We would love to tell you about other George White Mystery Games. Inside your game, there is a card with a QR Code which lets you join our mailing list. If you do not join, we will not contact you… even if we have something genuinely exciting to announce. We won’t even send you one of those jaunty seasonal newsletters.
If you do join the mailing list, we will periodically send you exciting and enticing emails about our Mystery Games. Unlike some others, we will not fire these off like a malfunctioning confetti cannon at the Crumblington Summer Fête. We know how annoying that can be. But if you decide you no longer want to hear from us, please tell us and we’ll stop. Immediately.
Security, sharing and your rights
Your data is stored securely, retained only as required for our legitimate interests in fulfilling your order and our legal obligations, or, in the case of marketing, until you withdraw your consent.
When Stripe collects the information necessary to process your payment, it keeps it more securely even than Crumblington Bakery’s closely guarded banana‑bread recipe! It is so secretive that it doesn’t even share your full card details with us. Stripe is certified to PCI DSS Level 1, the highest level of card‑payment security, which greatly pleases Detective Inspector George White.
We will not share your information with other organisations. Your personal data is treated with the same seriousness as Lower Pudlington Police Station’s biscuit inventory.
You may request access, correction, or deletion of your data at any time. Reasonable requests will be handled promptly; unreasonable ones will be handled promptly but with a raised eyebrow.
Should you wish to contact us about how we handle your personal data — whether it’s an enquiry, request, or complaint — please email: GeorgeWhiteMysteryGames@protonmail.com. We will get back to you within a few days.
Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
If you believe your personal data has been handled in a manner that would cause the Information Commissioner to purse their lips, adjust their spectacles, and open a new case file, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner (ICO). The ICO is the UK’s independent authority for data‑protection matters and can be contacted at www.ico.org.uk.
We would, of course, prefer you speak to us first so we can resolve the issue without involving higher powers, but the option is there should you need it.
